The Community Relations Department provides the
following events for the community:

Memorial Day at Bill Breeze Park
This event is held at the gazebo along
beautiful Starke Lake provides an opportunity
for members of our community to honor all those
who have served their country and given their
lives for our freedom. Interesting guest
speakers headline the event. A luncheon
for those attending the ceremony follows the
event. |

Veterans Day
This is also held at the gazebo along the shores
of Starke Lake and provides an opportunity for
the members of our community to offer thanks to
all veterans who have served this country.
Interesting guest speakers headline the event
who speak of their experiences and the veterans'
contributions to our nation. A
luncheon for those attending the ceremony
follows the event. |

Volunteer Appreciation Dinner
The City holds this event each year to express its
thanks to the many Ocoee
residents who give their time and efforts to
make Ocoee a great place to live and work. The
many volunteers honored at this event serve on
the various citizen advisory boards. |

Christmas Dinner
The Christmas Dinner for Families in Need, is an
opportunity for employees to serve a catered
Christmas Dinner to some of the less fortunate
people here in Ocoee and Winter Garden. City
employees volunteer to set up, serve the food,
hand out stockings, play Santa, and take photos
. The event is always a wonderful and giving
tribute to the spirit of the season. Staff
obtains numerous donations and toys from local
businesses to bring smiles to children's faces. |

Black History Month Celebration
Each February the City of Ocoee formally
recognizes Black History Month. The City's
Human Relations Diversity Board holds an essay
contest for Ocoee schools. A special
ceremony is held at city hall to announce the
winners of the student essay contest.
Viewers may also tune in to Ocoee TV Channel 200
to watch programming highlighting African
American achievement. |

Thanksgiving Baskets
This is an annual tradition that gives city
workers a chance to give back to the community.
Each year, City of Ocoee employees donate
wrapped Thanksgiving Baskets to the Christian Service Center. Each city department
"adopts" a family and buys them food and other
essential supplies to make their Thanksgiving
Day special. |
