CURRENT PROJECTS

SR 50 Road Widening, Phase I (West Oaks Mall to Good Homes Plaza) - Although this is primarily a Florida DOT project to replace a large fill across Lake Lotta with two bridges, the City will be relocating water and sanitary sewer facilities as part of the effort.

SR 50 Road Widening, Phase II (SR 429 to West Oaks Mall) - This project is currently slated to begin in 2017 but may be advanced to 2013 as a design-build project if funding becomes available.  The current construction plans were developed in 2001.  Many changes have occurred in the SR 50 corridor and along intersecting streets and areas they serve since the plans were prepared.  In addition, the City of Ocoee has adopted a Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) development plan that establishes a number of objectives for the area affected by the road project.  As a result of these many factors and events, City staff is extensively involved in a redesign effort with FDOT staff and consultants.

Withers-Maguire House - The House has served as a museum of the families that built and occupied it, as well as of other pioneer families in the area and the City's history.  However, with only about 100 persons visiting the facility annually, the City and the Ocoee Historical Commission identified the need to get greater use of the House and make it an active part of the community.  The initial strategy for doing so involved construction of an adjacent wedding patio.  In 2012, the City will repurpose three rooms in the House for use by wedding parties as they prepare for the event.  The museum will be improved over time so as to provide both continuing and evolving presentations in various rooms in order to motivate repeat visits.

Prairie Lake Reclaimed Retrofit - This northeastern subdivision will receive reclaimed water service during 2012.  The project was advertised for bids in January 2012.

Clarke Road at Clarcona-Ocoee Road Traffic Signal - The City will install a traffic signal at this intersection as part of the County's effort to widen Clarcona-Ocoee Road.  The cost of the work is being paid for with financial contributions from a developer whose project will create additional traffic in the area.

Vignetti Park Expansion - A new softball field will be constructed at the park.  The new field will meet the requirements for the highest level of league play and should attract new tournaments to the area.

Ocoee Cemetery Columbarium - There is presently no facility in a City-owned cemetery for the interment of cremated remains.  A 48-niche columbarium will be constructed in the City cemetery on East Geneva Street to provide space for such interments.  The facility has been designed so as to provide for significant expansion as demand rises.

Ocoee Community Center Replacement - In 2011, the City identified the need for an event center and banquet facility and retained the services of an architectural firm to design such a replacement for the existing 1978-built Community Center.  The design effort will be completed in 2012.

Ison Center Improvements - The City has received two federal grants totaling $396,300 to expand the Ison Center, which is a senior citizens and veterans service center on Adair Street in north-central Ocoee.  Grant deadlines will require $148,800 of the work to be completed by September 2, 2012.  The exact work to be done is still being determined.

Western Force Main Loop - One of the major shortcomings of the City's existing sanitary sewer system is that it moves all flow in a circle around the city, which imposes a large demand on the facilities serving SR 50.  These facilities are operating at near capacity and impact the ability for the SR 50 corridor to grow significantly.  The Western Force Main Loop, now in design, will redirect a major portion of the flow from the western part of the city in a different direction and free capacity for CRA redevelopment.  Construction funding has not yet been identified.
