COMMISSIONER JOHNSON |
Commissioner Rusty Johnson has been a resident of Ocoee for
fifty-five (55) years. Prior to his election as District 3
Commissioner in 1999, he served as District 1 Commissioner for
the City from 1986 to 1997. Commissioner Johnson is currently
employed by Gosselin Realty. He is retired from the United
States Postal Service where he served with the Ocoee Post Office
for many years. Commissioner Johnson served in the United States
Army and is a Vietnam Veteran.
Commissioner Johnson is a proud graduate of Ocoee High School and
has Associate of Arts degree from
Valencia Community College. He has also attended the University
of Central Florida.
Commissioner Johnson has been an active member of the community
for many years. He served as a Charter Member and President of
the Ocoee Jaycees as well as Vice President of District 8. He
has worked with children in the community over the years by
coaching Little League and serving on the Ocoee Little League
Executive Board. Commissioner Johnson has also served as an
Executive Board member of the Ocoee Bulldogs Pop Warner Program,
President of the Ocoee Junior High Athletic Program, and
President of the West Orange High School Diamond Club.
Presently, Commissioner Johnson is serving on the West Orange
Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for a second term.
National League of Cities Leadership Training Council Board
Member.
Rusty has been an active participant in the National League of Cities
Leadership Training Institute, a program created to recognize
and acknowledge excellence in leadership. He served three
years he has served on the Institute's Training Council, which
develops seminars and programs to help strengthen and promote
the leadership capacity of local elected officials. More than
3,000 mayors, council members, and local leaders participate in
leadership seminars and programs designed to explore the nature
and practice of local government leadership. Presently, he is
serving on the League's Small Cities Council, which provides a
forum for sharing ideas and best practices among smaller
communities.
Commissioner Johnson and his wife Marilyn have been married
thirty-three years. They have 5 children: Tim, Michelle, Mark,
Lisa, and Lesley, and 11 grandchildren: Peyton, Makenzie, Alexis,
Carissa, Shay, Olivia, Ashley and Adayln, Jaxon, Kendall and
Carter.
