INFORMATION SYSTEMS DEPARTMENT

The Information Systems Department provides and maintains the infrastructure necessary for interactive communication with the City and to the community.  This is accomplished by providing voice and data services for all City departments and the Internet web site for the community.  The department currently comprises of a Manager and three Systems Administrators working on an average of 97 requests for services each week.

Voice services include telephones and voice mail for City staff and interactive phone menus for automatic call routing from citizens.  We also provide an interactive voice response system for scheduling inspections 24 hours a day.  We provide voicemail for City staff so you can leave messages while they are unable to answer the phone.  Please note, that you can exit someone's voicemail and be transferred to a live person during normal business hours if you press 0# after the recording.

Data services include the installation and maintenance of computers and peripherals, personal digital assistants, personal communications devices, and network connectivity to other government agencies.  We currently maintain over $1.3 million worth of computer related equipment within the City.

The City's Internet web site is also maintained by Information Systems.  City departments provide the information, and we format it and publish it on the web site for access by the public.  Information Systems assists each department with the design and  procedures for ensuring information is timely and accurate.  We have worked many hours to redesign the City's web site to make it easier to use for everyone.

We also provide training to City staff and elected officials on the use of the technology provided by Information Systems.  These sessions help staff better utilize the equipment and software provided to them so they can provide faster and better service to the public.

Our performance measures include:

  • Resolve 80% of service requests not requiring outside support within 3 business days.
  • Provide City staff at least twelve training sessions a year.
  • Redesign and expand the amount of information on the City's web site.
