PROPERTY AND EVIDENCE

The Property and Evidence Unit is made up of one full-time civilian employee. The position was acquired with a
"COPS MORE" grant. The unit is in charge of the custody of property from impounding to disposition.
The unit receives and stores thousands of pieces of property and transports items to the FDLE crime lab each week
for forensic analysis.
Release of Firearms
A court order will be required for the release of your firearm per Florida State Statute.
FSS 933.14(3) No pistol or firearm taken by any officer with a search warrant or without a search warrant upon a view by the
officer of a breach of the peace shall be
returned except pursuant to an order of a
circuit judge or a county court judge.

Do I need an appointment to pick up property?
Yes, appointments are arranged Monday
through Friday from 8:00am till 4:00pm.

Do I need to bring identification?
Yes, you will need to bring a valid
Florida picture Identification/Drivers
License.

Is there a fee for getting my tag back?
No, the only fees are paid to the Tag
Office and/or Drivers License Office.

Can my spouse pick up my property for me?
Yes, if notarized written consent
of the owner is given.

Can I get my property back if I am a minor?
No, it will only be released to a parent
or guardian, must show legal
guardianship proof.

Can I get my firearm back?
If the gun was taken as evidence or as
part of an injunction you must get a
court order signed by a judge
specifically stated for the release of
the firearm. This is also
dependant on a background check.

The officers dusted for prints at my
house, how long will it take to get
results?
Most all evidence is sent to the Florida
Department Of Law Enforcement Regional
Crime Lab for processing. A time
frame for the results is dependant on
lab case priorities. This could
range from a (1) week to (6) six months
depending on the type of case.
