Traffic Unit
|
The five dedicated members of this unit are
primarily responsible for investigating
traffic crashes, issuing citations for
traffic infractions and parking violations.
The Ocoee Police Department participates
in several state and national enforcement
campaigns including, "You Drink, You Drive,
You Lose" and the quarterly "Click It or
Ticket It" seat belt enforcement. Thanks to
the Traffic Units’ efforts, Ocoee has a
higher than state average seat belt usage
rate.
The Ocoee Police Department's Traffic
division educates the motoring public
through education and enforcement. The Ocoee
Police Department has ten (10) Traffic
Homicide Investigators. The Traffic division
investigates incidents, from minor crashes, all the way up to
crashes involving deaths. The Traffic
division gives safety tips to motorists
through newspaper articles, the web site and
the City of Ocoee's television station
Here are some steps to take if you were involved in a
minor accident.
Some reasons why motorists die in crashes
in the City of Ocoee:
- Not wearing seatbelts
- Driving under the influence
- Speeding
The Traffic division is adamant about
enforcing these violations. It is our
mission to make the streets of Ocoee the
safest in the United States.
Traffic Homicide Investigators
Traffic Homicide Investigators are highly
trained in serious crashes that may involve
a fatality and some are Traffic Crash
Re-constructionists. Due to the detailed
nature of these investigations they are very
labor intensive. These dedicated officers
are available on an on call basis.
The Traffic Division purchased the
Chartrand Ruler in 2002. The Chartrand Ruler
is a device that saves numerous hours of
labor by measuring the crush on a vehicle
that was involved in a serious accident.
